This second Policy Briefing Paper, published by the China-Program of the Stiftung Asienhaus deals with current challenges and perspectives of organic small-scale agriculture in China. In this context, the focus lies on Participatory Guarantee Systems (GPS), i.e. systems ensuring a high level of food quality which are characterized by a strong relationship of trust between consumers and mostly small producers. The author Cornelia Kirchner argues that the introduction of PGS might have positive effects on the environment, the working conditions of farmers, the affordability of organic, safe food for the broad population and the rural development.
