Industrial activities & the practical influence of environmental laws
Through their exchange the twinning organizations are going to learn more about industrial activities and their impact on the environment in Europe and China and how the laws work to regulate certain activities. They are also interested in working together with industry to improve the environmental performance of facilities as well as strategic litigation to protect the environment. In order to do so, they will spend time at a Chinese chemical plant as well as in EU-related networks.
About the Twinning organizations
Envirofriends, Beijing
The Beijing Envirofriends was established in 2005. It mainly provides accommodation, information, internship, counseling, and training to newly established NGOs, NGOs from remote areas or from poor areas. It is the responsible party of the Chinese side in the East Asia environmental information sharing network which provides a platform to share environmental information between China, Japan and South Korea. EEB arranged environmental science lessons and trainings for almost one thousand times in more than 30 provinces, cities, and areas in China. It has organized about a hundred international as well as domestic environmental protection conferences and forums and has written over 40 environmental protection papers.
European Environmental Bureau, Belgium
The European Environmental Bureau is a network of over 140 European NGOs which tackles Europe’s most pressing environmental problems by agenda setting, monitoring, advising on and influencing the way the EU deals with these issues. These include issues such as climate change, biodiversity, circular economy, air, water, soil, chemical pollution, as well as policies on industry, energy, agriculture, product design and waste prevention among others. The EEB is also active on overarching issues as sustainable development, good governance, participatory democracy and the rule of law in Europe and beyond. While the focus of their work is on EU and its decision-making processes, they also work on wider regional and global processes, at the level of the UN and the OECD, in particular on the Global Agenda for Sustainable Development.
